With Steadfast Prayer

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
— Colossians 4:2

The Greek word for devote is made up of two elements: the first is the word “with,” and; the second, “steadfast.” So, Paul asks the church in Colossae to pray with steadfastness

Refuge took a step towards being devoted to prayer as a group met together on the first Friday of October to pray. We gathered in Janice’s new home to praise and thank our God for who He is and what He has done. Our first request was that God would bless our plans to pray corporately together!

We spent much of the time praying for the local body that is Refuge Church:

  • We prayed that our faith and holiness would increase

  • We asked for intimacy with God through our individual times of daily Bible reading and prayer and our worship on a Sunday

  • We prayed for an increased zeal for evangelism

  • We prayed in line with Jesus’ desire that we would love each other well

We lifted our eyes beyond our congregation:

  • We committed our missionaries to God and asked that fruit would come from their labour in Govan, Italy and Australia

  • We prayed for the church in Scotland

  • We finished our time by splitting into three groups to pray for three countries where Christians are persecuted—we asked God to sustain the faith of those being persecuted and to change the hearts of those cultures and regimes that persecute

We’re looking forward to our second gathering this Friday—see you there if you can make it!
