From our very first date, Joe and I always talked about how we would love to live abroad. But there was always the how? question mark hovering above the dream. I had a job I loved and didn't want to leave—not forever anyway! Also how would we be able to afford it? And what about the children we hoped to have?
Whilst we appreciate that truly none of these issues are matters of life and death, God has been affirming to us through this stage in our lives, that He doesn’t only intervene in a crisis—He seeks to fulfil our hearts desires and bless us with abundant lives full of joy.
the dream becomes reality
In December last year, we began to really think about things and thought that if I fell pregnant, we could potentially go abroad during my maternity leave. Obviously, falling pregnant is not a science or easy, but the Lord blessed us with a healthy pregnancy in February last year. Subsequently, Joe was successful at interview for a job at the British School of Barcelona—one of the places we had most hoped to go to. Meanwhile, I applied for a career break to allow us to spend two years in Spain rather than just one and I was granted it—this, in itself, was a huge blessing and has allowed me to enjoy our time here without needing to worry about returning home without a job. Finally, I was given the go-ahead to deliver our new baby girl, Isabella in Barcelona—quite an experience!
The whole move has been laced with blessing:
we rented out our flat to a Christian family who are church planting in Glasgow
we found accommodation here in record time for the area—finding a flat that was beyond anything we could have hoped
we have joined the International Church of Barcelona and have met some great people
Furthermore, Isabella has been granted a passport, amazingly, within 11 days including mailing time back to Spain—just in time for Christmas! After all, whilst Barcelona is fabulous, we are in need of a good bit drizzle and a bag of proper chips!
Dream on people!
