Journey with jesus

Weird as it sounds, during my teenage years I decided that when I turned 18 I would start going to church to find out about God. I’d grown up with a Christian Mum, who read Bible stories and taught me to pray, but as I grew older I realised I didn’t know very much about who this God was, what He was like and WHY did He love me so much? I enjoyed my school years—however no matter where I turned for happiness nothing seemed to fulfil me and truly satisfy me. There was so much thirst in me.

And so it was, when I turned 18, I started to attend an inquirers course at my local church in Ventspils, Latvia (along with my best friend, Agnese, as well as my granny). That is when, for the very first time in my life, I experienced Jesus and His amaaaaazing love! I was in awe, amazed and OVERfilled with joy to finally meet Him and to realise what a beautiful life He has given and HOW much He loves me. And WOW what a journey it’s been since then as Jesus has led me to a foreign land and is showing me how to live out my life for Him.

how did you come to be part of Refuge?

My husband and I had previously heard of Refuge through friends and decided to visit. We were amazed at everything that we experienced that Sunday and couldn't wait for the next Sunday to go back there—we have been part of Refuge ever since.

What are some of the things you think are really great about Refuge?

Aw, I can't think of anything that isn't great about Refuge! Most definitely the people—who since our first visit there have not only welcomed us into their family but also have now become great friends without whom we cannot imagine our lives. MUSIC—Refuge is definitely a place where you can feel free to worship God and dance to your hearts content :) Refuge is also a place where I know I will receive God’s Word and feel spiritually fed every single Sunday.

How are you involved in life at Refuge?

I am currently helping out with the kids at Sunday School. Aw—ANOTHER great thing about Refuge—kids. I am incredibly thankful to be able to serve our family in such a way and  it is amazing how much I get to learn about God just by observing the kids’ bold and amazing faith. I am also a part of the ladies' community group (Bible study group).

what about Refuge encourages your faith?

People’s passion to pray. I'm encouraged to read my Bible. Being part of a community group during the week encourages me. Hearing God’s Word and being refreshed by it over and over again fills me with great encouragement, however seeing and experiencing faith in action is what fills my heart—seeing people around you live out their faith in their daily lives; loving and blessing, helping and supporting each other, witnessing God’s amazing work in other people’s lives, seeing prayers answered…all this greatly encourages my own faith.

If you could tell anyone Just one thing about Refuge?

It's an amazing place where you can feel free to worship God.
