During the week of the 15th of July, Refuge—along with some new friends from Mill City Church in America—hosted ‘In the Wild’ Holiday Club for primary aged children in the Pollokshaws community.
It was a fun filled week full of music, dancing, games, crafts, and of course, Bible stories. The safari theme was a fun way to celebrate God’s wonderful and vast creation. It also served as a helpful visual reminder that, just as one encounters amazing animals on an adventure, one can also encounter the amazing works and words of Jesus in the Bible.
The central truth for the week:
Each day built on truths discovered previously so that by the end of the week, children were introduced to the life of Christ from the time He was a child in the temple, to the day He rose out of the grave.
In all, almost forty children took part, over half of whom had no prior relationship with Refuge Church. Parents also had the opportunity to enjoy hot drinks and refreshments through our ‘café’ that we ran parallel to the club. Several mums hung about and it was a great way for them to connect and grow familiar with the people and place of Refuge Church. The week culminated with a family fun day on Sunday the 21st of July where we had the opportunity to serve the community through a meal, bouncy castle, and games for the kids. An invitation was also given to come and explore the message of Christianity with us at Refuge Church.
Overall, it was a wonderful week filled with God’s favour. We continue to pray that God would use the gospel seeds planted in the hearts of children and parents to stir up new life in the community around us.
